A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME

profile%2520pic%25203_edited_edited.jpg

My name is Dr Louisa Casselden and I am a Clinical Psychologist.

I provide a welcoming and therapeutic environment for adults and young people who are struggling with a range of mental health difficulties, to help them explore and make sense of the experiences they have had. Through the use of evidence-based psychological therapy I aim to work collaboratively with people to improve their daily functioning and help them build skills to live the life they want to achieve.

I use a number of therapeutic approaches in my work including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) for a range of presentations including trauma, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy and systemic approaches. I have had training in Interpersonal Psychotherapy and a number of parenting programmes including the Incredible Years, Mellow Parenting and Triple P.

I work part-time in the NHS in a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, where I provide psychological assessment, consultation and treatment for young people and their families. Previously I have also worked as a Clinical Psychologist in adult services, and have a lot of experience working with adults with a wide range of mental health presentations.

I completed my undergraduate Honours degree in Psychology and worked for several years in the Health and Social Care sector before completing a Masters degree in Applied Psychology for Children and Young People. I have worked in the NHS for over fifeteen years as a qualified psychologist, first as an Applied Psychologist and then as a Clinical Psychologist after completing my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2015.

I have a particular interest in working with parents during the perinatal period (i.e. during pregnancy, birth and the post natal period) because I understand how challenging the transition into parenthood can be for individuals and couples alike. This can be even more difficult for people who have experienced trauma or have pre-existing mental health difficulties such as anxiety, depression, complex post traumatic stress and issues of grief or loss.
